North Stradbroke Island Accommodation, Queensland
North Stradbroke Island is a small island 30 km southeast of the capital Brisbane. Before 1896 the island was part of the Stradbroke Island. In that year a storm separated it from South Stradbroke Island, forming the Jumpinpin Channel. North Stradbroke Island is a small island being approximately 38 km long and 11 km wide and is known colloquially as "Straddie".
There are three main population points on the island. Dunwich is the largest and has most of the services. Point Lookout is on the surf side of North Stradbroke Island and is the major tourist destination in the season. The third is Amity Point and is much smaller and a popular fishing spot on the island.
North Stradbroke Island is serviced by car ferries and water taxis from Brisbane's bayside suburb, Cleveland. Sealed roads link the ferry terminal at Dunwich with Amity Point and Point Lookout. Taxis and the island's own bus service also offer easy transport between the three main centres.
The car ferry takes approximately 45 minutes and the water taxis take approximately 20 minutes to reach Dunwich. Vehicle barge bookings. Ph 1800 555 200. Water Taxi from Cleveland information Ph: 07 3821 0266.
